Rework Procedure

Inspection of the 225-4526 and 358-8461 Stick Cylinder Group

The stick cylinder identification needs to be checked prior to starting this Rework Procedure. Not all cylinders are affected.

1. Inspect the 225-4526 and 358-8461 Stick Cylinder Groups.

For 345C L, 345D L, 345D LC-VG, and 349E L machines, refer to Image1.1.1

For 345C HVG UHD OEM machines, refer to Image1.1.2.

NOTE: If only the stick cylinder rod assembly has been already replaced on the machine, the replacement of the rod assembly is not required.

If the entire stick cylinder has been replaced, check the identification as describe below.

Please take a photo of the exiting stick cylinder identification and upload the photo to SIMSi when claiming against the Service Letter.

LOCALIZATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF THE CYLINDER MARKING

Localization:
The stick cylinder is identified by a marking. The localization of the marking is on the cylinder barrel, close to the head cylinder (+/- 250 mm) all around the diameter as indicated on Image1.3.1.

NOTE: The identification of the cylinder could be behind the clamps holding the cylinder lines.

Identification:
The cylinder identification has been changed beginning May 2011. Refer to Image1.4.1.
If the cylinder is identified with the marking shown on Image1.4.2, the stickcylinder is good. There is no need to replace the rod assembly. If the cylinder group is identified with the marking shown on Image1.4.3, then some of the stick cylinder rods need to be replaced according to the identification procedure shown on Image1.5.1.

PROCEDURE TO IDENTIFY STICK CYLINDER WHERE THE ROD ASSEMBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED:

Only three assembly numbers and test numbers are affected: 13594, 16294 and 16571

All others assembly numbers and test numbers are out of scope, there is no need to replace the rod assembly.

The stick cylinder rod assembly needs to be replaced ONLY IF:

– The identification shows the cylinder built date is between November 1st, 2010 and February 28, 2011 AND the assembly number and test number are equal as shown on Image1.5.1.

– The identification on the cylinder is not clearly visible.

2. Remove the stick cylinder group and replace the current rod assembly by the new 358-8472 Rod Assembly. Refer to the Service Manual and use standard disassembly and assembly procedures.

Before disassemble of the rod assembly, check if the 359-7190 Stop is moving freely. Refer to Image1.6.1. The stop needs to turn freely around the rod. If the stop does not turn freely, the stop should be replaced during the rod replacement.

3. Assemble the new rod assembly by using the listed parts and reuse the other parts. The piston and the stop should be replaced only if they are damaged. Refer to Image1.7.1.

NOTE: Before tightening the 126-1971 Special Locknut, lubricate the rod thread with a patch of Molybdenum Disulphide and tighten to a specified torque of 13500 +/-700 N.m. Refer to Image1.7.2.

4. Reassemble the stick cylinder group. Perform a bench test and ensure that the stick cylinder group does not leak.

5. Tighten the cylinder head bolts to a specified torque of 800 +/-100 N.m.

6. Reinstall the stick cylinder group on to the machine.
